A healthy and
balanced diet
with Greenway

A little plant-based goes a long way. This is one of Greenway’s most important mottos, because a plant-based diet has numerous benefits, both short-term and long-term. In addition to helping the planet, Greenway’s plant-based family is also good for your health. Need proof? The comparative study by Evelien Mertens, researcher in Nutrition and Dietetics at Erasmus Brussels University of Applied Sciences and Arts, research assistant at the VUB and self-employed dietician.

The study compares Greenway’s plant-based alternatives with their meat variants. The Greenway Burger met its counter pole, a regular beef burger, while the Greenway Chipolata competed with two different chipolatas (pork/mixed). The Greenway Minced Meat was also reviewed against two meat alternatives (pork-lamb/pork).

The energy value or, the number of calories per 100 grams, is one of the study’s most important pillars. The research showed that Greenway products had an equal or even lower caloric value than their animal variants. The Greenway Burger contains 185 calories per 100 grams, opposed to the 294 calories of a classic beef burger. With 222 and 229 calories, the Greenway Chipolata and the Greenway Minced Meat score slightly higher than their meat alternatives (245 and 289 calories, resp.).

In terms of protein, Greenway’s plant-based family scores very well: the products contain approximately the same amount of protein as their animal variant. This qualifies them as a good source for protein. With regard to the amount of fats (saturated fats included), Greenway’s products perform far better: less total fats and saturated fats. In comparison: the Greenway Minced Meat contains 15 grams of fat per 100 grams, of which 5,4 grams saturated fats. The mixed minced meat, however, contains 24,5 grams of fat per 100 grams, of which 8,9 grams saturated fats. With regard to sodium content, the different alternatives are equally matched.

Last but not least: the study also compared carbohydrates and sugars. Contrary to its animal variants, the Greenway products do contain carbohydrates, of which almost no sugars. Because they’re 100% plant-based, the products also contain ± 7 grams of dietary fibres per 100 g. Finally, iron and vitamin B12 were added to the Greenway products, a valuable addition.

Evelien Mertens’ research concludes that, because of their nutritional values, Greenway’s products align perfectly with a healthy diet.
